Classics on a Budget

August 30, 2020 Fashion

A classic to me is something with a timeless quality. It doesn’t date or go out of style. They are your staples to any wardrobe and as such require a level of quality to sustain them. So while I’ve used the word “budget” for this blog post – please keep in mind that word varies from person to person. But, in this instance, in order to maintain a certain quality within each of these pieces some items may be more expensive than others. However, I always consider the fabrics and design to be of highest importance in order to sustain the longevity of a classic.

We’ll be keeping in mind the fabrics and design that went into making them, just as well as what their price tag is.

*Please note*: In an effort to provide size options for more than one size I’ve linked items from mainstream stores instead of vintage shops. However, looking at your local thrift store, eBay, or Etsy store will provide a huge range of sustainable options that can cater to your specific size.

Items Shown From Left to Right:

Trousers: Link
I love the modern carpenter look of these trousers. It gives a fresh take on a classic with detailed stitching on the seams.
– Composition is: Polyester 75%, Viscose 22%, Elastane 3% – The only time I’m okay with more polyester than natural fibers is with trousers. Because of the constant friction trousers can endure – having soft natural fabrics will lead to pilling – polyester is less likely to pill in this instance and can help increase in the longevity.

Blazer: Link
I love this pointed collar and tailored take on a black blazer. As it’s a bit shorter in style it makes for a great blazer for accentuating your waist instead of hiding it. Perfect for everyday, work, or an occasion.
– Composition: OUTER SHELL73% polyester (at least 25% recycled), 20% viscose, 7% elastane; LINING 100% acetate

T-Shirt: Link
The best t-shirt I’ve found on the market. It’s thick enough to feel like a quality piece and not turn see through after a few washes. Bonus, there are tons of color options.
– Composition: 100% Cotton

Sweater: Link
A fantastic budget friendly sweater that comes in lots of different color ways, sizes, and is a great go to in those cooler months. You’ll wear on repeat all Autumn/Winter.
– Composition: 100% Lambswool

Cardigan: Link
Not the cheapest option on here, but a classic all the same. The price bump is due to the quality ingredients of alpaca wool which is a softer wool. This piece is timeless for all seasons. Spring-Summer-Autumn-Winter. A perfect layering piece.
-Composition: Alpaca 40%, Polyamide 35%, Wool 25%

Coat: Link
I’ve already purchased this myself as I’m a coat Queen… or a coat addict… whichever way you spin it. This beauty is double breasted and features a small herringbone design in the fabric. Dark gray in color, it doesn’t get much more classic than this.
-Composition: 48% wool, 43% polyester, 9% viscose. Lining: 55% polyester, 45% viscose.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. x
Sincerely,
Autumn

Buying Well on a Budget

August 18, 2020 Fashion

As we transition from summer to fall it’s important we focus on buying well even if you’re on a limited budget. The key things to think about are versatility and craftsmanship.

Even budgeted items can be well crafted based on the design and the materials. These are two of the most important things to look at when looking at the clothing item as a whole. Natural fibers will always be better so look for items made of wool, cotton, viscose/lyocell, cashmere, etc.

When transitioning seasons the first place you’ll want to shop is your own closet. Hang up your clothes on a rack, if you can, and take an account of what you already own and where you might be missing pieces or need upgrades.

Then, make a list of pieces you’d like to add or replace.

To give you a start I’ve added 5 pieces I found which would be great additions to any wardrobe that will carry you through the seasons.

From left to right here is a link to each of the items shown:
Boots – https://bit.ly/2CzIWy7
I chose these boots in particular because they are a modern shoe shape and an easy heel height for even those who hate a heel. Also, they are leather so they will last longer and are a natural fabric.

Blazer – link
Made up of 84% cotton/16% linen on the outer shell. A great, easy to wear color regardless of the season and perfect for layering and all occasions.

Knit Vest – https://bit.ly/3h4XQvi
Composition: 70% viscose,30% polyester
A thick knit to keep you warm on your body while also an excellent layering piece in the A/W over shirts and t-shirts. In the spring it can be worn by itself and adds a unique element to an outfit.

Shirt – link
Composition: 100% cotton / At least 50% recycled.
The design element of the shirt makes it a modern take on a classic white shirt. Also, the pleating and cinched back makes it flattering for any shape.

Trousers – link
As a true lover of trousers – these are some of the best I’ve come by in a while. The front pleat makes them flattering for all shapes and the sage color makes them a new neutral that can be versatile with nearly any color in your closet. A must have in my opinion.
